02-19-12 Announcements
- Liturgical Ministries Meeting – March 4th All experienced and new (desiring to be trained) Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, Sacristans, and those who take Communion to the homebound should attend. A light lunch will be provided, followed by time for clarification questions, demonstrations of what to do for each ministry and an inspirational presentation by Rev. James Bessert of the Office of Liturgy. Plan to be here from after Mass till at least 2:30 p.m.
- Town Hall Meeting? If you are interested in attending a town hall meeting regarding the Pastoral Planning of the Diocese and St. Matthew Parish, please call the parish office at 755-7336 on Monday, Feb. 20th to let us know. Leave your name and phone number as requested on the response form which was inserted in last week’s bulletin to determine if there is any interest in a town hall meeting. That form is due today. The Core Team will provide for a Town Hall Meeting if people desire one. A facilitator from the Reid Company will conduct the meeting.
- St. Matthew Fish Fry, 511 W. Cornell St., Zilwaukee, MI 48604. March 2, 16, 30, Serving take outs at lunch 11—12:30 and while serving dinner from 5:00—7:00 p.m. Lunch: $7.75, Dinner: $9.75. - Happy World Marriage Day! Today, we honor the vocation of marriage. If you brought a copy of your wedding picture, we are delighted to share in reminiscing with you whether your spouse is living or deceased for love never ends. It’s fun to see pictures of your youthful days and celebrate the faithfulness of those of you who have weathered many of the ups and downs of married life. Congratulations! Join us for coffee and donuts after Mass.
- Thank You Note – “Sr. Janet and the parishioners of St. Matthew, thank you for remembering my 40th anniversary as a priest. God Bless! Fr. Ron
- Fish Fry Dinners Begin Feb. 17th – (Click For Flyer) It’s that time of year again. We begin on the Friday before Ash Wednesday, so pass the word or an extra flyer to your neighbors, friends, or business acquaintances. We continue to offer the Fish dinners every other Friday from Feb. 17, Mar. 2, Mar. 16, and Mar. 30 during the lunch hour we have take outs only from 11:00 a.m,. – 12: 30 and also when dinner is served from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Lunch is $7.75, Dinner is $9.75 and for children ages 12 -5 it is $4.75, children 4 and under are free. Workers are always needed. Contact Maynard Stine at 754-5504 or Jim Plowdrey at 753-3105. The Hall number to order take outs during lunch time on the above dates only is: 755-4215.
- Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22nd – Remember this is a day of fast and abstinence from meat. There will be mass at St. Josaphat at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and a Liturgy of the Word Service with distribution of ashes at St. Matthew during the noon hour at 12:15. St. John the Baptist will have a 7 p.m. service as well.
- Feb. 19th Baptism, Candidates and Rite of Sending – Next week, we will have the Baptism of Summer Louise Grant, daughter of Amanda (Rivette) and Patrick Grant. Louanne and Richard Rivette are the proud grandparents. We also present those we will be sending to Bishop Cistone as candidates, adults and children age 7 or older, who have been baptized Christian but are now preparing to make a profession of faith within Catholicism. Haley Stowe will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil along with her two children who will be baptized, and Carl and Malinda Schmidt and Samuel McKenzie will be fully received into the Church with the rest of our Second graders on their First Communion day, May 6th.
- Just a note of clarification for those who may be wondering: A second collection is taken the first Sunday of every month which is for the needy.
- Survey Response Forms: At least 163 were mailed and the previous week’s bulletin had a survey insert as well as copies were available in The Gathering Area last Sunday. As of Feb. 6, we have received 52 surveys. Thanks to all who responded.
- Bishop Invites all to attend Holy Hour at St. Elizabeth Parish in Reese on Thursday, February 16th from 7—8 pm. The intention for the Holy Hour is the historic undertaking, Planning Tomorrow’s Parishes, a strategic planning process designed to assess the state of churches across the 11-county Diocese of Saginaw and develop recommendations to enhance the vibrancy of future parish life. - Liturgical Tune Up --All liturgical ministers should attend the March 4 meeting with Fr. Jim Bessert from the Office of Liturgy. We will have lunch after Mass, followed by clarification questions and then his presentation. Please register so we know how many to plan for food and materials. New volunteers are most welcome to be trained.
