Children (Grades Pre-K thru 8)    Click for 2011-2012 Registration Packet

SACRAMENTAL PREP is a two year program.  FIRST GRADE should be filled with children anticipating First Communion as a Second Grader.  Because there are three sacraments (First Communion, Confirmation, and First Reconciliation) in Second Grade, parents are encouraged to enroll their children in the Pre-K program, where they will begin to learn basic prayers and gestures.

Grades 3 through 8 continue developing faith, prayer, and deepening an understanding of the sacraments and Scripture.

Attention Parents of High School Students:

School is finally back in session after a great summer of warm days and vacations. Now comes high school sports and very busy days for our students. We find that our education is very important to our children’s future. But isn’t our faith and education to God’s word just as important to our children’s future also?

Our youth ministry gatherings teach us that we are children of God and our future of living the faith and practicing it doesn’t happen just on Sundays, but everyday of our lives.   Students are welcome to join us every other Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to learn more about our faith and to put it into practice. For more information call the Parish Office at 753-5103 or Jeff Dupuis at 233-7378

There will be several opportunities for service, enrichment, entertainment, socializing, faith exploration, prayer, and connecting with other area youth groups. Young adults or college students interested in helping form a team are welcomed. Parent drivers needed for some events. Call Sr. Janet at 989-755-7336.

Cluster Religious Education End of Year Report for 2010-2011
  End of Year Report
We had 48 children enrolled in the Pre/k through grade 8 classes held at St. Josaphat Center.  Attendance was generally very good for most students.  Pre/k, lst, and 2nd averaged about 10 students while 3rd & 4th grade had 3—4 students per class.  Grade 5 and middle school 6-7-8 combined had more. As listed in our thank you last week, we had 8 catechists and 3 volunteers as well as our pastor/and pastoral administrators involved in the program.  Parents and grandparents were very generous providing for our special meals and events. Sr. Janet has been actively involved in directing this program.  Fortunately, most of the catechists will be returning next year, but we will need a few more catechists  and we always need assistants to help in the primary grades pre/k—2.

Child Lures Prevention
In compliance with the requirements of the Diocese of Saginaw, Sr. Janet has begun the implementation of the Child Lures Program designed by Kenneth Wooden to help parents and children recognize the dangers or tricks (lures) predators use to engage and gain access to children.  Because of the limited time of a Religious Education Program, students will attend two presentations, one each semester.  Grades 6-8 are given a broad overview in the first class and then focus on individual lures in the second class.  The very young will be gently introduced to trusting their own inner alarm system and the importance of avoiding any danger when someone seems to be invading their private space to get near them or their private parts. They will be taught to tell parents, teachers, or the police and to always tell the truth.  For more information, go to the Diocese website at www.dioceseofsaginaw.org.  Click on the "To Protect and Heal" box, then scroll down to the "Safe Environment Programs," and click on the "Child Lures Prevention" link, or go directly to the Child Lures Prevention Program by clicking here.

Wednesday classes meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Josaphat Education Center on Harrison off of Shattuck.

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS IS A TWO YEAR PROGRAM
A child must attend first and second grade because there is so much to learn to prepare for three sacraments:  Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist.   We encourage children to begin in preschool.
Parents have an obligation to take children to Mass every weekend.  A child learns that God is important when parents demonstrate this by showing their love and faithfulness every weekend.   Growing in faith begins now and continues for the rest of our lives.
Youth need good moral training and support, and should be attending grades 1 -12.
