Religious Ed Family Potluck & Stations of the Cross Skit 2011
03-16-11 Religious Education families gathered recently for a delicious potluck banquet dinner, prayer, and socializing.  The table settings were lovely, the food was plentiful, and the desserts were delightful.  Afterwards, the crowd traveled from room to room as a host of students from all grades participated in a Stations of the Cross skit.  Children were costumed in homemade robes, scarves and veils, some donned with  swords and shields.  As we moved from room to room, student announcers read aloud for each station, to which Sr. Janet then led the crowd in prayerful song.  It was a wonderful presentation by the children and staff, and gave all who participated a true sense of the Lenten Season.  Thanks to all who helped to make this evening such a gratifying event.                                           (Back To List of Albums)

Religious Ed All Hallow's Eve Celebration 2009
10-28-09 - The religious education classes held a Saints and S'mores Party for Halloween and All Saints Day.  Sister Janet gave a brief history of Halloween and it's meaning to the children; and afterwards, there were hot dogs from the grill, and lots of goodies to eat. The children  roasted marshmallows on the fire, made s'mores, and socialized.  It was a delightful celebration of Halloween and All Saints, and a great time was had by all.  The staff and children also suprised Sister Janet by singing "Happy Birthday" to her, and presenting her with a gift and flowers.  It was very nice; and Sister Janet was pleased and touched by their thoughtfulness.    (Back To List of Albums)

4th & 5th Grades Bake Cookies For Soup Kitchen 2009
09-30-09  The 4th & 5th Grade Religious Ed classes had great fun baking cookies this past week for the East Side Soup Kitchen.  With the help of their teachers, they made delicious chocolate chip cookies from scratch, using the giant mixer in St. Josaphat's kitchen.  Armed with scoops, they placed the dough on giant cookie sheets, flattened the dough-balls, and baked them in the ovens.  When they were done, the children tasted their efforts, and afterward, bagged them up to be distributed at the soup kitchen.  It was a lesson in love and compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves, and one of using our gifts of time, talent, and treasure, or stewardship, to bring joy to others.     (Back To List of Albums)

Cluster 2011-2012 Registration Packet

Children intending to receive the sacraments need to be in our religious education program for at least two years to be prepared. If your child intends to receive tbe sacraments in Grade 2, he/she must be attending in Grade 1.  It is simply too much to learn in one year. We also have a wonderful pre-k program that is good preparation for Grade 1.
May 5, 2010
Our video night at religious ed was on Fatima - 30 min cartoon/animated version for the pre/k thru grade 3 and real actors for grades 4-8 with actual pictures of Sr. Lucia who received the apparitions of Mary at Fatima.  The children watched with pop and popcorn and took home rosaries and prayer cards on Fatima. The little ones were in room 1 and the older kids were in the cafeteria. It was a scream watching the little ones watch the video.  They made great observations and had good questions.  I think the older ones were duly impressed by their experience of the story of Fatima as well.  It gave them something to think about -- that Mary came to visit children just like them at a time when we were fearful of Russia and prayed for peace and the conversion of Russia.  I tried to make the connection that we were as fearful of Russia as we are today of Iran, Iraq and Pakistan.  I hope your kids got something out of it.  I was pleased with the little ones response to their video.  The little ones also had a May Crowning service in the room while grade 2 finished preparation for Confirmation and First Communion. The older kids had a longer more detailed version of the story of Fatima.

Cluster Religious Ed Grades 4th--8th Graders Field Trip to Shattuck Manor 2011
01-26-11  Last Week our children in Grades 4 – 8 were great ambassadors to the senior citizens at Shattuck Manor.  Some told jokes.  Some presented a reading. Everyone sang on key!  With the help of children in pre/k through grade 8, we were able to take homemade cards for the 120 residents. The residents were very gracious and glad to have us come.  (Back To List of Albums)
